The San Juan Islands are treasured for their pristine shorelines, rural communities and unique natural environments. With a local population that has doubled in the last 25 years, and 7 million people living in the surrounding region, San Juan County’s vital resources are persistently strained. We must continually address these pressures in order to preserve the waters, shorelines, forests, farmlands and wildlife that make the San Juans what they are today.
For almost 30 years, the Friends of the San Juans has had a single mission:
To protect the land, water, sea, and livability
of the San Juan Islands
through science, education, law, and citizen action.
Friends was founded in 1979 to encourage San Juan County's initial efforts to manage growth and protect natural environments. As a grassroots membership organization, Friends acts as the local watchdog for habitat protection and at risk species. We need your help!
If you are not already a member of FRIENDS, we invite you to join us in our work. If you are a member, we appreciate your continual support and involvement!
